Those goofy hoax forwards

I still get surprised by the legends and hoax forwards that come to my mailbox from smart, well educated people. I no longer let them know there's little or no truth in it. That just makes them feel foolish and I might lose a friend, so I let it go and hope somebody else will tell them and take the heat for it.
The worst are those that open with "I checked Snopes and they say it's true." If you read all the way to the bottom of the Snopes entry, that is often not what it says at all, but that the story is an old one, mostly or partly true but no longer a threat.
